Taildragger

A taildragger is an aircraft with the center of gravity behind the main gear, thereby needing another wheel (or skid) under the tail. Virtually all aircraft were taildraggers until the end of the Second World War, which is why taildraggers are formally referred to as having conventional gear. Modern airfields with linear runways encouraged the adoption of tricycle gear.
